Coated Fabrics for Industrial and Outdoor Applications

Taiwan Dyeing & Fabric (TDF) offers coated-fabric options for projects requiring a functional surface layer on a textile substrate. The current product range describes transparent and opaque PU coating options and identifies uses including tents, rainwear, jackets, pack cloth, linings, and advertising materials. The appropriate coating construction should be selected for the finished product rather than assumed from the application name alone.

Define the Function of the Coating

Start by identifying the property that the coating must provide. Water resistance, moisture-vapor transmission, flexibility, appearance, and compatibility with later manufacturing are separate questions. A fabric described as waterproof is not automatically breathable. Likewise, a lightweight construction does not establish a particular tear strength or durability level. State the required performance and acceptance method so that the proposed substrate and coating can be reviewed together.

Compare Test Results on the Same Basis

Hydrostatic-pressure values are meaningful only when the test method, sample conditioning, and reporting conditions are identified. The performance of the completed item also depends on seams, closures, shape, and exposure. Avoid converting a fabric test value into a universal statement about rain intensity. Ask TDF to confirm the construction-specific water-resistance target and the supporting evaluation before selecting a material for your project.

Consider Appearance and Downstream Processing

Discuss whether the coated side will be visible, whether a transparent or opaque finish is preferred, and how the material will be cut, sewn, folded, or otherwise processed. Include any requirements for hand feel, color, backing appearance, or repeated cleaning. These details help distinguish a suitable material proposal from a category-level description. Special treatments and combinations require confirmation for the selected fabric.

Prepare Your Coated-Fabric Inquiry

Send the intended application, fiber and weave preference, fabric weight or denier, width, coating requirements, color, estimated quantity, and destination market. Include the test method for each essential performance target and provide a reference sample when available. Confirm sample approval, minimum quantity, price, timing, and testing responsibilities directly with TDF. For constructions involving a separate film or composite layer, also review the Laminating Fabrics category before deciding which development route to discuss.
